What Tuck Is Known For
A transformative experience. Tuck prides itself on being transformative and life-changing, and assumes that its graduates will leave as very different people than when they arrived. For that reason, Tuck has a much higher tolerance than other elite programs when it comes to talented and driven students who may not be as clear on their career goals. It is the ultimate “come as you are” business school. However, applicants who are uncertain about their post-MBA goals need to show some overall direction in their careers; the school is not interested in attracting aimless dilettantes. Therefore, while Tuck may be more flexible than most MBA programs in its philosophy, you still have to present a natural and clear career path to gain admission.
General management. Nearly one in six Tuck graduates (15%) takes a general management position coming out of school. This may not seem like a high number, given the fact that graduates of every MBA program get an education in “management.” However, Tuck sends the largest proportion of its class into general management and rotational programs of any other top business school. On the flip side, it sends only 3% into operations, supply chain, or strategic planning roles.
Consulting. Although Tuck encourages students to find their own way, approximately a third of them pursued a career in consulting following graduation, one of the highest percentages amongst top business schools.
