“I thought the entire course was great. I learned a lot by going over the strategies in class and by going over various problems that actually used the strategies. I really liked the emphasis I felt the program put on vocabulary.” Monserrate D.

Benjamin Hardee was a great instructor.
Benjamin Hardee was a great instructor. He was able to properly explain the material and answer any questions our group had. He was very patient and helped me better understand the strategies that the Veritas Prep course outlines. I strongly recommend Mr. Hardee to others.

What is your favorite quote?
I am a human being. Nothing that is human can be alien to me. – Maya Angelou. I was fortunate to hear Maya Angelou speak at my college convocation. She discussed being human and being understanding, prose that has always stuck with me. We are all human, so any concept or emotion we can come up with is implicitly human and thus shared. Whether applied to abstract philosophies, understanding a friend, or something more concrete, everything that is human is realizable. I find that this is difficult but important to remember when tackling new challenges, including taking standardized tests and applying to graduate schools.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Last year, I was admitted to my dream graduate program for predictive analytics. The day I found out, I checked the letter at least 10 times to make sure it really said I had been accepted! My college journey had been a little tortuous, beginning with chemistry, education, and economics and ending with a linguistics major. I had learned many bits and pieces from a myriad of fields, but now I wanted to work in data science. It took me a few years of classes and self-learning, but I managed to get to a point where I both work in and study analytics.

What do you love about teaching?
I love creating metaphors and as many different problem-solving methods as I can. Every student speaks and understands a different problem-solving language per se. A good tutor should have many different approaches to every problem to customize the session to a student’s understanding. Being able to build that relationship and work back-and-forth with an individual or class to achieve optimal understanding is a challenge I find fulfilling.
