Which is your favorite lesson to teach?
I love teaching Algebra.  I think it is a really fundamental skill, and mastering it can give students a significant leap forward in their Quant studies.  I have a degree in Mathematics and really enjoy working with others to help them feel more comfortable with math in general.

What is your favorite quote?
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master, if you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same.
- Excerpt from IF, by Rudyard Kipling

I believe that in order to be successful in life you need to be able to keep your head in the game and not fixate on how you are doing or performing.  Failure and success are a part of life and are temporary. It's all a journey and this quote reminds me to put my energy in to giving my best in all situations, to keep moving forward, and to never get caught up in a big win or loss.

Sara was great
She was very caring about the student's scores, she took the time to answer questions, and gave excellent overviews on the exam. I could not have had a better experience.

Sarah is such a great instructor
I think Sarah is such a great instructor and person. She genuinely cared about our preparation for the test and our post graduate school aspirations. I had to drive every weekend from Santa Barbara but I knew it would be worth it because Sarah never disappointed .

Created a great atmosphere for learning
Sara Boem was great. She cares about student's progress and would always make herself available if students had any concerns/issues outside of the night of class itself. All I can say is that she is very intelligent, created a great atmosphere for learning, and she is a great human being. I will recommend her to my friends and colleagues.

What subject did you struggle with the most in school and how did you overcome it?
I always had trouble with foreign languages. While I normally did well in analytical/conceptual subjects like economics and finance, I learned there’s no way to thrive in a foreign language without a healthy dose of memorization and repetition. I overcame this by changing the way I studied. Rather than all-night cram sessions I started working in smaller chunks, treating my study the same way I treated going to the gym or doing household chores. I found this approach was very helpful when it came time to take the GMAT.

If you weren’t teaching the GMAT, what would you be teaching instead?
High School math - either Algebra or Statistics. I was lucky to have some great math teachers during my formative years who went beyond simply teaching content. They enforced the applicability of mathematics, that it wasn’t just a bunch of rules but an analytical way of solving problems. I find the underlying principles of those subjects are applicable in unexpected ways.

What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote comes from Lou Holtz, a great American football coach: Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. While this is really effective advice for leading a happy life in general, it's also particularly great advice for success on the GMAT - mistakes along the way are to be expected, but how you respond to those mistakes is what will make all the difference!

What do you love about teaching?
I love being around others and challenging people to think differently, but what I love most about teaching the GMAT is being able to encourage students who are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed by the test. Having been through the entire process (and range of emotions) myself, it brings me a lot of joy to show students how to think like the testmaker and unlock their pattern-recognition potential!

Education:

Which is your favorite lesson to teach?
Data Sufficiency. I actually find the logic puzzle element to be pretty interesting, so I love sharing that with my students.  It's a problem type that tends to baffle almost everyone at first; being able to shed light on how it works and how to beat it is extremely rewarding.

Which movie/TV character would do best on the GMAT and why?
Dexter Morgan from 'Dexter'.  He's brilliant, thorough, perceptive, and clever.  Thinking like the testmaker would come naturally to him.  Also, his dad seems pretty sharp, so having an extra voice in his head on those tricky Data Sufficiency questions would be handy.

If you weren’t teaching the GMAT, what would you be teaching instead?
Probably the LSAT.  Reasoning has always been a strong suit of mine, and who wouldn't want to talk about logic games for a living?  Okay, pretty much everyone but me.

Crazy brilliant and very approachable
A big shout out (do people still say that anymore?) to my instructor Bill. Crazy brilliant and very approachable, always arrived to class early to help me with the homework and frequently stayed hours afterwards to walk us through the questions. My test is next week and I would not be as confident walking into this if it wasn't for Bill and the very encouraging staff at Veritas Prep. Thank you very much!

I would highly recommend Bill to any future student.
Bill Robinson was an OUTSTANDING instructor! He was available anytime for extra help and he really cared about our class performing well on the gmat. I would highly recommend Bill to any future student.

I cannot express how awesome he is.
I have ZERO feedback for Bill. As much as I appreciate constructive criticism, I cannot provide Bill with any. He is an amazing instructor and easy to talk to who finds ways of explaininge logic through various ways. Bill should be a highly valued instructor with Veritas. I cannot express how awesome he is.

What do you love about teaching?
Helping people change their lives. When students make the decision to enroll in one of our classes, they're making an effort to better themselves and gain entry to the best possible program, and I love helping them reach that goal.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Though I’m new to it, raising my daughter has already become my proudest accomplishment. The speed with which she changes and the enthusiasm she shows for the simple pleasures in her life are grounding and gratifying. As someone who works to analyze film and literature on a daily basis, I have an apparent allergy to cliche, but in raising my girl I’ve given over to the fact that some common experiences are the truest and most profound.

Which movie character would do best on the GMAT?
American Psycho’s Patrick Bateman, of course. The guy’s well educated, quick on his feet, and works with a formidable vocabulary. He’s not afraid of new technology and has a frame of reference that covers everything from high finance to low culture, not to mention a need to succeed that’s second to none.

Andrew Brotzman hit the ground running since day one.
Andrew Brotzman hit the ground running since day one.  I was motivated by his level of professionalism. Andrew was confident, knowledgeable, and commanded respect while transmitting a genuine concern for his students.

Andy was really thorough
Andy was really thorough in teaching each of the topics and as a test taker providing first hand information about his GMAT experiences.

I would definitely recommend him
He was very good and made it fun to learn.  I would definitely recommend him and consider him for private tutroring.

If you weren’t teaching the GMAT, what would you be teaching instead?
If I were not teaching the GMAT, I'd spend time teaching a young border collie everything I know. Ever met a border collie? They pick up on everything.

What is your favorite quote?
One good thing about music: when it hits, you feel no pain. -- Bob Marley

Something similar happens when you hit your target GMAT score. No pain. On to bigger and better things. Celebrate. Earn it.

I have learned so much from him in this short period of time
Mark is extremely smart and one of the most humble and down-to-earth teachers I have ever had.  He really took the time to explain everything. (even the most simple terms) I have learned so much from him in this short period of time and I would recommend him to everyone.

Please give him a raise
Mark is a wizard regarding GMAT tricks and having him has helped advance my mediocre skills greatly. Please give him a raise, he is a top notch instructor.

I definitely recommend him
Mark is a great instructor and I definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for an instructor to go through the GMAT materials in a short period of time with the best result. He covers all the important topics in GMAT and does not hesitate to spend extra time on explaining any questions or unknowns. THANK YOU MARK for making our GMAT course so much fun and helpful.

Education: BS,Truman State University | MA, History & Education, Truman State University | JD, University of Michigan
What is your favorite lesson to teach?
My favorite lesson to teach is data sufficiency. Everyone learns something in data sufficiency! Everyone has that “aha moment” that I love. Some people come to the lesson with a big fear of data sufficiency and I am able to give them the tools to build their confidence. Some people come in thinking that they know everything about data sufficiency and are shocked by how much they actually learn during that lesson. It really is a metaphor for all of the other sections of the GMAT, it is not just what you know, it is how you play the game and data sufficiency is all about learning to play the game. What can be more fun than that?

If you were not teaching the GMAT what would you be teaching instead?
If I were not teaching the GMAT I would be a coach. In fact I think of what I do for Veritas Prep as coaching. Like a sports coach or a vocal coach, or even a life coach, a GMAT coach is doing more than conveying content. The students that I work with need more than knowledge, they need to be able to perform to the best of their abilities on test day and it is my pleasure to help them do it!

Could I have scored 700+ without David? Probably not
I paid for 28 hours of online tutoring with Veritas Prep. I was assigned David Newland as my instructor. It was the best money I could have spent. Within six weeks of working with David, I scored 770 and 760 on the GMAT Prep Software PP1 and PP2 tests. On the real exam I scored 700 (90%), comprising Quant 47 (73%) and Verbal 39 (88%). The drop between the PP tests and the real test was mostly due to nerves and bad time management on the day. Could I have scored 700+ without David? Probably not given I only had six weeks to prepare. David was excellent. With 8+ years of GMAT experience he knows how to solve every question the test can throw at you. He explained methodology in a clear and easy to apply fashion. He was also flexible and we could frequently schedule sessions on short notice.

This guy is smart and really knows the GMAT inside and out
Got so lucky to get David Newland as my instructor. I went into the course more confident in quant, and David is a verbal expert, specifically in Critical Reasoning. This guy is smart and really knows the GMAT inside and out, which was helpful since I had never taken the exam before. I could hear his voice inside my head as I did practice problems and during the actual GMAT.

David was excellent.
The instructor David was excellent. I found that he took the time to explain each section properly and in easy to understand language. I very much enjoyed this course and would recommend it to any one with a very hectic schedule.

What do you love about teaching?
Making a difference. Sometimes it's big, sometimes it's small. But in the end, you're always making a difference. And when you see your students achieve that success, you can't help but feel proud that you played a part in that process.

What is your favorite Veritas Prep success story?
The Chef! I learned on the first day of class that he was a high-school dropout who never went to college. So, I pulled him aside during a break and I told him that he would have to change his attitude if he wanted to achieve success with the GMAT. He was going to have to listen to me instead of those demons from his past. But if he could not do that, he should walk out right then and there. Fortunately, he said that he would try - which is all I could truly ask at that point. Over the following weeks, I motivated him to work hard and he succeeded... in a big way, ultimately scoring 760 and getting into INSEAD!

Apart from his great teaching style, he kept the class motivated.
I took some of these trials with other companies and I can say I was easily bored after 1 hour. But not on Ravi's class. Apart from his great teaching style, he kept the class motivated. He made me try harder on each question one after the other. He reached out to everyone in the class and made sure that we understood where we did wrong and what we could do to avoid mistakes and I think that was the most important thing. He made sure everyone was satisfied at the end of the class and the show up to the classes represented that. It was a very dynamic class with everyone helping each other out and some of us are still in touch, helping each other with GMAT problems.

Ravi was easily one of the best teachers I have ever had.
I have never learned more from any other class I have taken in my history as a student. Ravi was easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. Ravi knew the ins and outs of every problem and explained his reasoning extremely well. I wouldn't recommend any other course or teacher if you are preparing to take the GMAT.

Ravi makes the GMAT looks so much more approachable.
As an international student non-native speaker, I was having a hard time with the verbal session - more specifically with the Sentence Correction. But after taking Ravi's classes, Sentence Correction became my favorite topic in the Verbal session. It's amazing how Ravi makes the GMAT looks so much more approachable. The way he teaches and explains all the GMAT stuffs is spectacular.

Education: BA, Brigham Young University | MBA, Brigham Young University | University of Utah, Doctoral coursework in Educational Leadership
Which is your favorite lesson to teach?
That one is easy. Arithmetic. Students often think that a lesson called “Arithmetic” will not even be worth their time, until we begin looking at the math from an entirely different perspective. Remember: the GMAT is a critical thinking test and not a math test. It is fun to watch the students’ expressions as we turn horrendous looking problems into simple, 20-second solutions, using a little bit of “mental gymnastics.”

What is your favorite quote?
The major work of the world is not done by geniuses. It is done by ordinary people, with balance in their lives, who have learned to work in an extraordinary manner.” (Gordon B. Hinckley) This quote certainly applies to how we approach the GMAT: it is not just super-geniuses who ace the GMAT. It takes a balanced, calculated approach – and it certainly takes work – but anybody can drastically improve their score.

What is your favorite Veritas Prep success story?
One of my students signed up for the Veritas Prep course, but he lived in Cedar City, UT – a distance of over 250 miles away. He made the commute to every class, studied hard, and ended up improving his GMAT score from a 430 to a 710 – a 280 point increase! He was always so appreciative. Several times throughout the class, he would pull me aside and say, “That was definitely worth the commute.”

Aaron was a great teacher.
Aaron was a great teacher. He knows great techniques that  will help you improve your GMAT score. Thanks to Veritas Prep and Aaron, I'm a second year MBA student at one of the nation’s top MBA programs  and already have a full time job offer for when I finish my second year. I recommend Veritas Prep and Aaron to all my friends.

I really could feel like he cared about each student
My teacher Aaron went out of his way and put in extra time and effort to make sure all my questions were answered. He took time in each class to make sure each student understood the concepts clearly and still moved at an appropriate pace.  I really could feel like he cared about each student, not just his contract with Veritas Prep.

I haven't seen an instructor as well prepared as he is.
Our instructor Aaron Pond is a great guy always concerned with each student in our individual needs. I haven't seen an instructor as well prepared as he is.

Education: BA, Stanford
What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote is one by Benjamin Franklin on education: Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. The entire Veritas Prep curriculum has been developed around the concept of Learning by Doing, and this quote captures exactly why we have done that. Rote memorization and rote learning are not effective approaches in education, and this is especially true when preparing for a reasoning and problem solving based test such as the GMAT.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest life accomplishment remains the first time I climbed El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. Although I had already been an active rock-climber while in high school on the coast of Maine, I was not prepared for the intimidating scale of Yosemite's huge granite walls when I moved to California to attend Stanford.  The first time I climbed there, I stood at the base of El Cap and thought I would never in my life climb this amazing piece of rock. One year later, after 4 days on the wall, I pulled onto the summit of El Cap, exhausted and elated; even though I have gone on to do many harder and more committing climbs, nothing will ever compare to the sense of accomplishment I felt that day.

Chris is a master of the GMAT material
My instructor, Chris Kane, was outstanding and helped me understand the different types of questions that the GMAT will use and the best ways to conquer these questions. I also did individual tutoring sessions with Chris and would highly recommend him. Chris knows how to teach complex subject matter to students. Chris knows all the different types of questions and strategies that the GMAT will throw at you. Choose Veritas Prep and Chris Kane.

Amazing teacher!
I can confidently say that Chris is responsible for at least 100 points increase in my score. Amazing teacher!

Just an overall great instructor.
Chris Kane was enthusiastic, very knowledgeable in all facets of the GMAT and just an overall great instructor. The 12 books that are given are extremely helpful, especially the skillbuilder sections. I learned valuable techniques and strategies to assist with question approach and time management. It was an awesome experience that was very beneficial.

Which is your favorite lesson to teach?
My favorite lesson: Geometry.....I make it VERY interactive and I have the students 'teach the class'.

What do you love about teaching?
I love that moment when a student suddenly gets it.

What subject did you struggle with the most in school and how did you overcome it?
I hated Geography when I was younger.  It was the only class that I ever got a C in.  Freshman year in college, I took a class on Economic Development in the Third World, and in my first 10 days we had to learn every single country on the planet and be able to place it on the map.  I was a Freshman in a class of Seniors.  It was the only assignment I got an A on during that class, but I was so happy to have overcome my own fears of Geography and ace it.

He truly cared how we were progressing
Where was Kevin during my high school and college courses? He engaged the class 2 nights a week for 3 hours by creating personal relationships with each one of us. He truly cared how we were progressing in our knowledge of the lessons and helped us each individually during breaks if he noticed we were lost. Class was great.

He took an individualized approach to each lesson
I can't say enough good things about Veritas Prep ... and especially Kevin. He took an individualized approach to each lesson once he had gotten to know each student's strengths and weaknesses. He gave me specific study advice on breaks and before/after class that really helped me.

I raised my GMAT score by 120 points within a month!
I had Kevin Richardson as my tutor.  With his help, I raised my GMAT score by 120 points within a month!  I took the regular Veritas Prep course about 1.5 years ago, but did not take the GMAT right after the course.  After 1.5 years, my skills became rusty, and that resulted in a disappointing score.  Kevin helped me by analyzing my skill-set and pointing out my fortes and my weaknesses. He then customized his teaching methods per my needs and built up my confidence along the way.  After being burned by the low score, it was important to have Kevin providing me with tips for each section and helping me to regain my confidence.  His teaching is easy to understand and right to the point.  For anyone considering a GMAT tutoring service. I would definitely recommend Kevin.
