I have 3 few questions from one of gmac practice tests:

1) what is the greatest prime factor of 4^17 - 2^28?

2) there are 5 pieces of wood, with an avg length of 124 and a median lenth of 140. what is the maximum length of the shortest piece of wood?

3) (there are two similar trianges pictured above, each with same angles x,y,and z. the bottom of the smaller triangle is "s" and the bottom of the larger triange is "S". it says that the area of the larger triangle is 2x that of the smaller) Therefore, what is "s" in terms of "S"?

For the first one, i see how to do a common base and then use number properties but im not sure how you get to the answer of 7. for the second and third, i dont know how to approach the problem......thanks!
