Hello,

I just took the gmat for the 2nd time. I saw a substantial improvement in quant but only a 1 point increase in verbal. I felt comfortable with the timing but just got absolutely crushed by many data sufficiency q's (geometry, probability, and a rates problem) towards the end of the exam.

In the verbal section, I felt uneasy about most of the reading comp questions and a few of the critical reasoning q's. My #'s are as follows:

GMAT 1: Q26 V27 470 Scale Score

GMAT 2: Q34 V28 530 Scale Score

How can I improve my score? My target score is 650. Is this realistic? What should I do to improve my verbal score? What about quant?

I didn't do ALL of the problems in the OG due to poor time management. Did not do DS, RC, and only partially finished CR (up to #86). I guess thats a good place to start. Any other suggestions to steer my focus during studying is welcomed 8-)

Hi DeltaX,

We are happy to hear that you had an improvement in both portions! We just had a student last week that reported that she went from a 510 to a 740. With that being said, YES, going from a 530 to a 650 is indeed possible.

It sounds like you already know where you need improvement. Since you have your timing down, we suggest to focus on the problems that you listed in your forum post ( data sufficiency and critical reasoning questions) and go through the Official Guide problems. Here are a few resources that we recommend to our students while they are studying:

Forums/Resources (you can search problems you are looking for)
http://www.facebook.com/VeritasPrep?sk=wall

http://www.beatthegmat.com/

Verbal Books
1.The Official Guide for GMAT Review and the Official Guide Verbal Supplement (for additional practice problems)
2. A book called “Grammar Desk Reference” (by Gary Lutz and Diane Stevenson) for good, targeted grammar reference

Quant Books
1. The Official Guide for GMAT the Official Guide Quantitative Review (for additional practice problems)
2. Short-Cut Math by Gerals W. Kelly

Good luck with your studies, we hope you achieve your GMAT target score of 650!

Best,
Jenny & The Veritas Prep Team
