hi - I just signed up for the intensive 1 week course but I would like to maximise practise beforehand. What do I need to get done before I start the course?

Hi,

We suggest that you complete Lesson Zero–Math Essentials prior to your first class. This lesson is not covered in class, but helps to refresh your fundamental math skills. There is a practice test in this book, as well as a corresponding pre-recorded lesson under “Veritas Prep On Demand” in your TrueTrack account. In addition, we recommend that you complete one of our GMAT practice exams in your online TrueTrack account (one of the two “GMATPrep” exams are a good choice), so that you can see roughly where your score stands & set your goal for improvement.

Hope this helps!

Hi! I also just signed up. What is the difference between Veritas Prep GMAT Simulator and the GMAT Prep Course ? Also, why does it say this message:

"Before you can access the GMAT Simulator, you must activate your account. Once you ahve activated your account, your access code will be displayed here."

I see that you recommend taking one of the two gmat prep for a baseline score, but I'm curious as to how these are different from the veritas prep gmat simulator. When should we take these?

I'll start on the math refresher you suggested.

Hi DeltaX,

Welcome to Veritas Prep! I'd be happy to answer your questions below.

1. When it comes down to it, there really isn't much of a difference between these two tests. The difference is that GMAT Life's questions were all written and developed by Veritas Prep and GMAT Simulator was developed jointly between us and Catprep. (Just an FYI, GMAT Life is now Veritas Prep Simulator, Set 1 and Veritas Prep Simulator is now Veritas Prep Simulator, Set 2.

2. Before you can access your GMAT Simulator, you'll need to download the GMAT Simulator program to your computer. Then it will ask you for an access code which is located in your TrueTrack account. If you have any further issues with this, please contact us here at headquarters. (US: 1.800.925.7737 | International: 1.310.456.8716 | UK: 44.208.099.7383 )

3. There is not an appreciable difference in question difficulty between the tests. They will all mimic what you can expect to see on test day.

However, since the scoring algorithm of the actual GMAT is a secret, there may be some scoring differences. The 800Score tests tend to score slightly easier on the Verbal side and harder on the quant side. The GMAT Simulator 1 and GMAT Simulator 2 exams tend to score 5% harder on either section. The GMATPrep tests score 5% easier on either section.

Functionally, there are some differences.

800Score tests can be taken individually by section while the other exams have to be taken all together.

You can choose extended time in the options menu for GMATLife and GMATSimulator, while 800score will prompt you to ask if you want to continue after you have run out of time.

The GMATPrep exams do not have detailed solutions for the problems, but you can always email the homework help line if you have questions about how to solve any of the problems there.

Regarding when you should take these practice tests, there's no typical schedule. Per my previous post, we recommend taking one test before your class starts. If you are enrolled in a full course (7 week course)- we recommend taking at least one practice test per week. Then, if you are taking the test 2-4 weeks after your course is complete, you can take the remaining practice tests if you have time. If you'd like your GMAT Simulator 1 and 2 to be reset, you can contact us at headquarters and we'll take care of it.

Best of luck!
Jenny & The Veritas Prep Team
