Just a quick question regarding the makeup of admissions committees at schools like NYU and Columbia. Are these the same people that run the information sessions and work in "admissions" or is the committee that reviews applications a separate entity?

If your question is whether or not you may meet the same people at an information session who will review your application, the answer is "There's a good chance of that." Usually those information sessions (at the school or on the road) are run by "real" admissions officers, although not every officer goes to every event, of course.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about meeting everyone and impressing them, etc. The odds of that helping you, while not zero, are low enough that you don't want to stress about it too much.
