Hi,

Which is correct here?

A) He smells bad
B) He smells badly?

I thought it's because smells is a linking verb and should be followed by a subject complement rather than a adverb?

regards,
Neil

Thanks.

I pressume you are indicating that we can discuss only veritas work book problems here.
Is there a forum that veritas students can share to discuss problems that do not have an exact WB text, page, and problem number?

There are several other GMAT discussion boards on the internet that are open to all kinds of questions. This one, though, is really limited to those materials provided by Veritas.

As for your question, however, it comes down to meaning.

"He smells bad." means he stinks.
"He smells badly." means his nose doesn't function well.
