I do not understand why it is answer C.

In the first part it says: the founders of the NYT were Henry Raymond and George Jones, who had little experience.

So the little experience is about both of them, or just about George?? How can I tell?

In answer C, it is as if George Jones founded the NYT and had no experience, and there also was Raymond ...

As if Raymond is less important all of a sudden? (I just thought it sounded completely wrong).

Hayo - you are correct. Choice C would be better if Jones and Raymond were grouped together. However, even without this, we still need to choose it since it is the only choice that is not completely wrong.
