 Post subject: Sentence Correction Book 1

On problem 13, page 27, I can't understand answer, which is D.... ending with AT and next word is A.

Please explain.

Think of "effected" as a controlling word - it controls two different

prepositional phrases:
bonding is effected:
over a broad surface
or at a series of points.
Without "at" as the preposition in the second one, this wouldn't make sense.
