Can someone explain why the answer is C?
Here is what I have figured out. Am I missing something?
Statement one is not sufficient because if they were integers it could be a = 12 and b= 5 but also a= -5 b = -12. If it wasn't an integer than there are many more possibilities.
-5>x>-12 or 12>x>5

Statement two is not sufficient since it doesn't strike out whether a = 12 or -5 and b = 5 or -12.

The key to this problem is that we don't know that a and b are integers

from (1), if a and b are integers, x = 7 12 - 5 = 7 (6,7,8,9,10,11)

but, if a and b are not integers, x = 6 12.5 - 5.5 = 7 (6,7,8,9,10,11,12)

With (2) and (1) together we know the difference is 7 and we know we have integers.
