The back of the book says "the possible values of x are 1..9, but the only value of x that allows y to be an integer is x=5"

How did you know the only value of X = 5 so quickly without performing calculations? What is the trick to evaluating this so quickly?

x + y = 9

.52x + .58y = 4.92

52x + 58y = 492

26x + 29y = 246

y = (246 - 26x)/29 ... so we need 246 - 26x to be divisible 29

multiples of 29 are 29, 58, 87, 116 ...
