How many values of n satisfy the following equation where n is a nonzero real number? n + (1/n) = k
1) k=1
2) k=2n

The answer is D. I see that both 1 and 2 lead to distinct answers, but they are different. I thought that answers on data sufficiency would be consistent with each other. Is this a flawed question?

will you send a screen shot of this question to me at help@veritasprep.com?
The questions are given in a different order to each student, so I don't have a great way to find this particular one..

A little follow up here. Veritas help has responded that it is possible that this is a flawed question and they are looking into it.
For anyone trying to "solve" this problem 1) would result in x=0 and 2) results in x=1 or -1.
My question was, why are these two results not the same.

Actually, the first one has no solution, which is different than x=0 -
but we're still looking into this one.

THanks,

We have looked in to this. The two statements do need to be
compatible, so the question is flawed.
