My though is:

(2) If b=2 and c=1, every operation (+, -, *, /, ^, etc) b ? c will result less than 10
2+1; 2-1; 2*1; 2/1; 2^1; and so on....
so (2) is sufficient.

(1) there's not enough information so (1) is not sufficient


So, for me the correct answer is B. The book said C and I did not understand the explanation.

Could you please explain why??? Thanks

We can't limit the choice of operations to just +, -, *, /, or ^. It could be a "compound" operation, like the one in statement (1)

Statement (2) only gives us the values. Without knowing what the operation is, we can't evaluate whether the result is > 10.

I'm sorry for my insistence, but I can't imagine a "compound" operation that uses 2 and 1 as operators resulting > 10.

For me it is very difficult imagine an operation or an example based on high school mathematics level that 2 and 1 could be higher than 10, specially because 1 is a number that usually does not "add" value to any operation (the same analogy I usually say that 0 annuls or reduce to 1 almost all operations).

I agree with statement (1) but I disagree with statement (2). Could you please give me an example how could 2 and 1 be calculated in order to result > 10?

if x @ y were x^4 + y^4

with b = 2 and c = 1, b @ c would be 16


if x @ y were x + y, b @ c would be 3


since with (2) alone, we don't know what the operation "@" is (2) is not sufficient.
