x = hardcover
(108 - x) = softcover

(2/3)x + (1/4)(108 - x) =
(2/3)x + 27 - (x/4)
(5/12)x + 27

I understand how I got to this point but I don't understand where to go from here or how to use the equation to find the answer.

Can someone please explain the solution to me??
Thank you!

both "x" and " (5/12)x + 27 " have to be integers

we have the pick the largest "x" that allows " (5/12)x + 27 " to be an integer

x can't be 108 because there are "some" softcover books and x being 108 would make the number of softcover books = 0

the next option is x = 96

(5/12)(96) + 27 = 67
