I just finished a GMAT Life practice test and had some questions.
2^x - 2^(x-2) = 3(2^17)

This was the first question and after calculations that turned out to be wrong I guess the answer. I factored out 2^x. The second answer solution factors out 2^x-2,

2^x-2(2^2-1)

I see everything else after the factorization but could you please explain this factorization? I don't understand how it works.

Also I was wondering what kind of differences are in the new GMAT Life tests. Does it use the same algorithm as the older Veritas Tests? Is the level of difficulty approximately the same? I only ask because my final score was V39 Q45 710. And that is the highest I've ever scored on any practice test. I would like to think that my months of studying have paid off but would also like to know what kind changes, if any, Veritas has made in their new GMAT Life tests to see if my new found confidence is unjustified.

Thanks in advance!

Will you send a screen shot of this one to us at help@veritasprep.com? Especially in exponent problems, it's much easier to avoid mistakes in our solutions if we see the exact problem rather than a transcription of it.
Thanks,

As we asked previously, if you send a screen shot of this one to us at help@veritasprep.com, we will be happy to help. Especially in exponent problems, it's much easier to avoid mistakes in our solutions if we see the exact problem rather than a transcription of it.
