(12 +x + 38) (81 - 4x - 79)

Our first step is to rearrange the terms so we can add/subtract them as needed; it helps if we rewrite the second part in terms of addition, i.e. (81 + -4x + -79)

(x + 12 + 38) (-4x +81 + -79)

From there, we can add the integers, leaving us with

(x + 50) (-4x + 2)

Using FOIL, we multiply each term in the first set of parentheses by each term in the second set.

-4x^2 + 2x + -200x + 100

We can add our two middle terms

-4x^2 + -198x + 100

At this point, we are finished, but we can convert back into subtraction if needed:

100 - 198x - 4x^2

Seemed harder than it actually was.
