 Post subject: Number properties - Arithmetic old book Q82

This question relies on the number property (as stated in the solution): "if a number other than 1 is a factor of the number x, then that number can never be a factor of x+1."

Would this hold true for x-1 also? I think the answer would be "yes", but want to confirm. In other words, any number other than 1 that is a factor of a number cannot be a factor of the number one greater, and one less than the number.

Trying to understand this number property completely in case it pops up in a similar form.

Yes, this would work for a number one smaller (x - 1) as well as a number one larger (x + 1)
