Harvard Business School may have many things going for it, but stunning weather is not one of those things. And while we don’t suggest you choose an MBA program solely based on physical location, if you just can’t get away from the sun, and want to spend your two years of business school earning an MBA in a warm, ocean-breeze-infused climate, here’s a list of five schools where you can get your MBA within walking distance to sun, surf, and seashells!
UCLA – The Anderson School of Management is located in Westwood, just a short drive from Malibu, some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. It may not be right ON the beach like Pepperdine University, but it’s closer to Santa Monica and the famous Santa Monica pier.
AGSM in Sydney – Ready to take your surfing skills to an entirely new level? Located in Sydney, Australia, the Australian Graduate School of Management is #1 in Australia and has received both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation. You can earn a degree in a foreign country without having to learn a new language!
University of Miami – Looking for a school in the US but outside California? On the East Coast, Miami is a beach lover’s paradise, and the University of Miami’s MBA program faculty was recently rated by The Financial Times as among the top 35 business school faculties in the U.S. and among the top 40 faculties in the world.
University of San Diego – Los Angeles may get most of the attention, but San Diego has stunning beaches in its own right. UCSD is located in coastal La Jolla, a couple of miles from Torrey Pines State Beach, which is part of the Torrey Pines State Preserve. The school offers both a full time and a Flex MBA from the Rady School of Management.
IAE – Aix-en-Provence – One school located just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean is IAE Aix-en-Provence – Graduate School of Management, which is a one-hour drive from Cassis, one of the most beautiful towns with sandy beaches on the French Riviera. Founded in 1955, IAE Aix-en-Provence has been awarded EQUIS and AMBA accreditations.
USC – Although not quite as close to the beach as UCLA, USC’s Marshall School of Business still boasts an impressive reputation, and many students apply to both programs, especially if they are looking into a West Coast business career. Twenty minutes from Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey, and less than two hours from San Diego, there’s plenty of dunes nearby to whet the beach-lovers appetite!
If you want a graduate school experience that involves proximity to the ocean, you may also want to consider some less-often-considered places like Texas and Rhode Island. The beaches may not be as stunning, but the programs might be!
